“If you are going to stay, then stay forever. If you are going to care, then care for me completely”. Author Unknown
These are not just words our kids will need to hear once. These are words, and more importantly, actions, our kids in foster care will need to hear and feel many times. When you have your heart broken multiple times, it takes a moment to rebuild and trust again. Sometimes our kids can feel brave and ready to give love another try. Sometimes they can become frozen by the “what if’s”. What if they walk away like the others, what if they don’t love me 100 percent, what if they ask the social worker to come get me when I am not perfect. If we, just for a moment, put ourselves in kids like Elizabeth’s shoes, we would realize how amazingly strong and resilient kids like Elizabeth truly are.
Elizabeth has experienced her share of let down’s and loss and this has led her to sometimes guard her heart. The idea of being adopted is often scary to her. Whatever family decides to make a difference in this young ladies life should be ok with Elizabeth occasionally saying she is afraid to be adopted. What Elizabeth is really saying is “please don’t give up on me”. With an unconditional family in her corner Elizabeth will eventually realize that having a family who loves her unconditionally is what matters most in this world!
Elizabeth is a very affectionate, friendly, social and talkative girl. She enjoys interacting with everyone she meets. Some of her interests include: dancing, arts/crafts, sports, such as playing soccer and being part of a team. She also enjoys her after-school program and has many friends. She attends regular school and is performing at grade level. Elizabeth does maintain contact with her older sister and hopes that her forever family will support this relationship. Let’s help Elizabeth trust in the power of love again! Photo by Will Wong
